In the village of Bethanchowk – Nepal, one of the areas hardest hit by the floods that devastated Nepal in September 2024, many homes were destroyed, tragically causing dozens of casualties. Landslides and floods in the autumn of 2024 compromised the entire water supply system, forcing families to abandon their homes. To address the emergency, the Rotary Club Fenice District 2031, together with the NGO HISCUS and The Nestling Trust UK, funded the reconstruction of the water supply system. 60 households were affected. The project, completed in the spring of 2025, saw strong participation from the local community, which contributed to the construction of a concrete water tower and a new distribution network. Today, water once again flows into homes, schools, and fields.

During a volunteering period in Kathmandu, the NGO HISCUS, working together with The Nestling Trust in the UK, brought to the attention of a member of the Rotary Club Fenice, District 2031, the need to restore the water system in Bethanchowk.

Sostenibilità: In che modo i benefici del progetto continueranno

The construction of the new water storage tank restored access to safe and reliable water for at least 60 households. Community members now have improved access to clean water for drinking, cooking and sanitation, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases. Local engagement throughout the project enhanced community ownership and commitiment to maintaining the water system
